How to clean your oven with baking soda in 10 steps

It crisps our potatoes, bakes our cakes and roasts our chicken…The oven is essential in the kitchen. To keep it in good condition and for it to function optimally, it is important to maintain and clean it regularly. We’ll let you discover our little tips for cleaning it effectively and effortlessly.

How often should I deep clean my oven?

It is recommended to   deep clean the oven as often as necessary or at least every three months. It is also advisable to clean grease stains and various splashes after each use, because cleaning  a household appliance  that is maintained on a daily basis is of course less restrictive.

Here is our tip of the day! Use a baking soda paste   to get rid of dirt in your oven and bad odors.

Step 1: Obtain the necessary ingredients and equipment

  1. Baking soda ;
  2. Some water ;
  3. Rubber gloves;
  4. White vinegar  ;
  5. A spray bottle;
  6. A cloth.

Step 2: Remove the oven racks

  1. Remove oven racks;
  2. Place them on old newspaper or  a used towel  so as not to dirty your kitchen floor;
  3. Empty the oven of all other elements such as the plate or others.

Step 3: Make a Baking Soda Paste

  1. Mix 12 cl of water with 79 g of baking soda to obtain  a paste   ;
  2. Double the dose if necessary, as you need to coat all the dirty oven walls.

Step 4: Apply the Paste to the Interior of the Oven

  1. Put  on rubber gloves  to protect your hands;
  2. Apply your paste to the inside of the oven, making sure you don’t miss any areas;
  3. Focus on tough stains.

For information

On contact with fat, the paste will take on a brownish color.

Step 5: Leave everything to sit for at least 12 hours

  1. Check that you have covered the entire interior of the oven;
  2. Leave the baking soda paste on for at least 12 hours or overnight.

Step 6: Clean the oven racks

  1. For this step,  use a bathtub filled with hot water  ;
  2. Place used towels at the bottom of the latter to protect it;
  3. If the grills are really dirty, add 60 ml of pure, unscented liquid Castile soap to the hot water;
  4. Soak the grills in the bathtub  for at least two hours;
  5. Once the two hours are up, scrub the grates with a brush to scrub them;
  6. Rinse.

Step 7: Remove the Baking Soda Paste

  1. Back in the oven after 12 hours of waiting! With a damp cloth, wipe off the baking soda paste and with it the residue encrusted inside the oven  ;
  2. Use a spatula or scraper if the paste isn’t enough to break up all the stubborn gunk;
  3. Scrape off the residue gently so as not to scratch your device.
