Choose the right lemon tree and pot
First, it’s important to choose the right lemon tree for your space and needs.
There are several types of lemon trees, some of which are better suited to container growing. The most popular varieties include Citrus limon “Ponderosa” and Citrus limon “ Improved Meyer“ .
These two varieties are known for their cold resistance and ability to grow in pots.
Next you need to choose a pot that is adapted to the size of your lemon tree. A pot with a diameter of around 40 cm is sufficient for a young plant.
Be sure to choose a pot with a drainage hole in the bottom to prevent water from pooling and causing root rot. You can also place a saucer under the pot to catch excess water.
The ideal substrate for a potted lemon tree
The choice of substrate is crucial for the good growth of your lemon tree.
In fact, it should be light, draining and rich in nutrients. You can choose a mixture consisting of:
- 60% soil for Mediterranean or citrus plants,
- 20% compost or well-decomposed manure,
- 10 % Flusssand,
- 10% perlite or vermiculite to ensure good drainage.
